We are the sponsors, donors, followers, specific part sponsors and monthly donors, who want to see a George England 0-4-0 tender Tank Engine in original form. Anyone can join, but you must be a financial contributor.
Our aim is to support and finance the rapid construction of our 1863 Locomotive. Some of us donate the price of a Costa/Starbuck coffee a week, £10-£12 monthly, others, significantly more, it’s all down to what you can safely afford. Others give when they have spare funds available.

Director Access

Visit the Loco
We are delighted to be able to arrange visits for ‘Mountaineers’ to visit the loco and Engineer Mark Ashton in Darlington, accompanied by Chairman David Wood by appointment only.
Priority Tickets
Once Mountaineer is completed and we are able to tour the loco to various narrow gauge locations, our members will be able to enjoy priority access to tickets.
Prize Draw
‘Mountaineers’ will be entered into a prize draw for the first official journey, where our members can win the chance to make history on the maiden voyage.
Exclusive Access
We want our members to enjoy all the benefits of being part of the project so we’re delighted to offer direct access (when available) to the loco during preparation and disposal, at railways around the UK.
Private Trains
The ‘Mountaineers’ will enjoy the perks of our membership for many years to come with exclusive access to private trains on the railways we visit, subject to timetables etc.
